is an opportunity for the country to contribute towards the welfare of the Armed Forces personnel. The day is being observed every year to collect funds for the welfare of Armed forces personnel. A committee was set up on August 28, 1949 which decided a
Flag Day
will be observed on December 7.
After independence, the government chose to set up a welfare fund for the benefit of defence personnel.
It was decided that small flags would be distributed to general public across the country and funds would be collected which would be utilised for the welfare of defence personnel and their families. To mark the event, PM Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind met the officers of the Kendriya Sainik Board in Delhi.
