BlacKkKlansman Directed by Spike Lee Starring John David Washington, Adam Driver, Laura Harrier & Topher Grace. 2018, in cinemas now BlacKkKlansman is now one of my all time favourite movies. As a film it works masterfully. There is tension, suspense and comedy. The film is directed by Spike Lee, the black filmmaker whose films always contemplate political issues and in

BlacKkKlansman is oozing with 70s vibes, from the afros to the costumes to Terence Blanchard’s rich, R&B-based score. And yet director Spike Lee is hyper-aware of the history that preceded the film’s central story as well as the time period in which it is being told. The first character to appear on screen is a […]

BlacKkKlansman explores the parallels between 1970s America and the Post-Trump reality we’re living in – with a poignancy and comedic relief
LIVING IN a post Brexit/Trump world, where social media and “fake news” seemingly dominates, it can often feel like we’re living in a movie. Reality doesn’t feel all to real, and the steady rise of racism, xenophobia and discrimination leaves us feeling like we’re going backwards instead of forwards.

BlacKkKlansman might have a funny name, but it’s one of the greatest movies I’ve seen, and personally I think it should be a requirement for all people and students to watch, as it depicts real history and compares it to real life today, and what a truly a disappointing and shocking comparison… Following an eager new police recruit, Ron Stallworth, who successfully manages to lead an undercover team and infiltrate the local division of one of the most frowned upon organisations, the Ku Klux Klan, hence the name of the movie, BlacKkKlansman. Directed and produced by the incredible Spike Lee, who received a six-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival after the premier of the film, and with a cast of actors you will definitely recognise, this very well acted and well made film is one of the best I’ve seen this year. I guarantee you will leave the cinema with a face of shock and be left with stirred up emotion even days after. I can’t recommend higher that everyone goes to see
